TeleCheck
What You
Need to Know About TeleCheck
Second Chance Checking |
TeleCheck
Most people know nothing
about TeleCheck until it is to late and the meeting is not a happy
experience. If you have ever been declined when writing a check at a local
merchant, then you have been declined by TeleCheck.
Who or What Is TeleCheck
TeleCheck is a consumer
reporting agency that is owned by FirstData and they collect, maintain and
reports data about consumer check writing transactions and banking
history.
TeleCheck allows merchants
to screen checks written by consumers thus allowing them to make a
decision on whether or not to accept that check based upon risk
calculations.
Why Was My Check Declined
When you write a check, the
merchant runs the check through TeleCheck and a decision is based upon
several factors and a risk scoring system. While we can not know the
scoring model, the score is based upon past history, if you have a current
file and other guarded reasons.
The frustrating thing is
that a denial does not mean your check is bad, it could simply mean that
they do not have enough information about you to complete their process.
Imagine, they will embarrass you by declining your check in public over
not having enough information about you, sad but that is how it goes. You
know the check is good, but the people around you do not and think badly
or feel sorry for you based upon TeleCheck and their lack of information
about you. Should be some recourse I know, but probably will never happen.
